D-Serine

D-Serine, an oral selective glycine co-agonist, is a product candidate for the treatment of schizophrenia and also has potential applications in autism and Alzheimer’s disease. D-Serine stimulates activation of the N-methyl-D-aspartic acid, or NMDA, receptor in the brain. D-serine formed in glial cells in the brain, has been found to be present in lower quantities in patients with schizophrenia than in healthy individuals. In addition, three clinical trials evaluating the use of D-Serine as adjunctive therapy in schizophrenia have been reported in the medical literature.

We have been granted worldwide development and commercialization rights to D-serine for a number of neurological conditions from Massachusetts General Hospital and Glytech, Inc. We expect to begin our first clinical trials of D-serine in 2006.
